As a VA resident I love how he notes that it was a Virginia car.. That doesn't mean much, we get bad weather and we have bad roads.

An old Mercedes diesel would be a good first car, but have it checked out first. Price isn't too bad either, but i'd try to get it down a little.

Fuck. Yes. Slow, reliable, built like a tank. So the opposite of my first

NY has terrible winter roads with pot holes all over. If I go after it I am going to try to get it down to around $2,500

I'd find a w123, I love mine. They are more classic, less plastic body cladding. They are a simple car, go for a turbo. They made them til 85 but 83 is the last year with no computer (I have an 83).

yup the roads in VA in the winter are like a war zone. I think you might even be able to go lower. When you have the cash in the sellers face, they'll do crazy things.

If I could get it down to $2,ooo that'd be amazing. I just have to try to convince my parents to let me go after this. At least at 2k I'd have extra money for registration and stuff like that.

this is probably not a good idea. You need a reliable car, and while the tank is reliable, its got far too many deficiencies. 1.) traction control, 2.) passing power, 3.) general reliability enough to tolerate less than meticulous maintenance, 4.) old world heating. id recommend something from honda or toyota to be honest for your first car. This one will strand you. 100% guaranteed.

it's definitely a good first car and if you could get it for less than 2500 you should definitely go for it but do be aware that you can find lower mileage ones for less.

If it's your money they should let you do it. I can definitely relate, my dad drove me crazy when I first started looking for a car.

Offer him $2k cash in person and I think you can get it. Try to get someone who KNOWS Mercedes diesels to check it out for you. It'll help you leverage a good deal.

I wanted a W126 in the worst way. Let me give you the pluses and minuses from what I know.

+) Bullet-proof motor, built like a tank, comfy, cool, not as expensive as most Mercs to keep up.

-) Still expensive to keep up, cold starts may be an issue, if it does start, winter driving will be hard with snow tires and impossible without them, diesel from that era is not the quietest/most refined, not as safe as a newer car, and I don't care how slow you think "slow" is, it's slower than that.

If you want something like this, you might also look at a W123 diesel, particularly an estate.

Yea worrying that he doesn't put in the mileage but looks to be very clean.

Seeing as it's mentioned as a daily it's probably got some miles on it.
